Workshops

The Society runs workshops to help members with their research, covering many varied subjects and topics.

What are the challenges facing you in your research? Do the subjects list interest you? Workshop topic suggestions are needed. Leaders are needed, do you have an expertise in some aspect of Family History research that you could share with members?

Library Workshops

They have already proved popular and booking well in advance is essential.

All workshops are held on a Wednesday from 10.30 to 12.30 at the Society Library and Resource Centre, 80 Summerhouse Drive, Joydens Wood, Bexley, Kent DA5 2EE.

Numbers are limited to 10 members per workshop. Booking can be done by email, please send your details with the workshop title you'd like to attend, to Workshop Booking, or ask a library volunteer for a form; or contact Janet Rose on 01322-384836.

You'll need to book a place in advance, they are not open to members who just turn up at the library. If you cannot get on the list, we take names for reserves just in case anyone drops out. Another workshop will be organised if there is enough demand.

A £5 donation per workshop would be appreciated, which includes refreshments.

Zoom Workshops and Discussion Groups

Following the corona virus pandemic shutdown, the Society has commenced running Zoom Workshops and Discussion Groups. Email workshop.booking@nwkfhs.org.uk to request an invitation to one of these zoom meetings stating the subject you want or in the case of discussion groups the topic for the theme of the meeting.

A donation for the zoom workshop would be appreciated, given through the EShop.

On the 2nd and 3rd Wednesday of each month David Cufley and our other experienced researchers will be giving 40-minute zoom presentations with Q and A on the research subjects requested by our members.

Typical subjects held in the past are:

  • Trade Sources
  • Drawing Charts and Trees by Hand as a Research Tool
  • Kevin Bacon Family History Laboratory
  • Fluctuating Population Numbers.

In addition, we will be running a two-hour discussion group twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month covering the topics

  • Writing up Your Family History
  • DNA Family History Research and
  • Family History Resources and Techniques.

The three discussion groups will agree a theme for the discussions. Up-to-date details will be on the website and in the e-mail information service newsletter.

We would be pleased to hear from any volunteers who would like to be involved with any workshops, along with any new topics that interest you.
