Zoom Workshop: Settlement, Examinations and Removal Orders with David Cufley

We will discuss the methods of qualification for settlement and how people were removed to another parish.

Examples of the documents will be shown. The sources and archives where they may be found will be explored.                                                          

From 1691 Settlement could be gained to a parish which would be responsible for poor relief of parishioners who fell on hard times. The system lapsed in the 19^th century.

The settlement certificates, examinations to prove settlement and what happens when a person is proved not to be of the parish are dictated by the Act. In this case removal orders would be made to be remove them back to their parish of legal settlement.

For 2024 a Zoom Register has been created to cover all attendance to any of the zoom groups. 

Once a month the zoom links for the discussion groups and workshops will be sent by email to those members on the register. Members who have registered can then attend as many of the Zoom groups as they wish with no need to make a specific booking for each one.

All Zoom Workshops and Discussion Groups are members only-events.
