Dartford Branch Talk: The Society of Brushmakers' Descendants with Ken Doughty and Branch Annual Meeting
If you have a brushmaker in your family, this could be a new source for you to investigate.
We all use brushes and you may be amazed to see the skills and ingenuity needed to make traditional types of brushes and brooms.
The talk is a mix of Genealogy and history involving items we just take for granted: England's first trade union, how brushmakers found jobs, why a small Norfolk town became home to a large brush company and why north west Kent didn't need to.
The talk includes videos and there are lots of items for attendees to view and handle.
Ken Doughty was born in Lewisham but has lived in Essex for most of his life. He worked for BT as a fault diagnostician and apart from family history his main hobby is music and playing the guitar.
His great grandfather (born 1829) was a brushmaker. He formed the Society of Brushmakers' Descendants in 1993, and now all references, whether related or not, are reported to the Society.
Talk will be preceded by the Branch Annual Meeting.
Doors open 9.45am. The meeting / talk will start at 10.30am and end by 12.30pm.
