This will include a brief overview of the history of photography especially in the 19th century when photography as we know it developed. We will discuss the history of the photograph/negative and any information/stories around it. Your own thoughts and ideas regarding the reason it was taken will be encouraged. We will look at the format/style/size and general look of the photograph/negative and what is in the image that can help you date it. Useful aids to help in the dating process and suggested books and websites will be included.
N.B - Before Part 2 (see 30th October) participants will be asked to select a photograph from their own collection and by applying information gained from Part 1, analyse it and write down their own conclusions and how they arrived at them.
